Dungeons, raids and player versus player combat are not the only way to obtain items from your character. Raising your reputation with various NPC factions in the game allow you to purchase items from the Quartermaster of that faction.

Reputations have seven different levels, with Hated being the worst (and often being attacked on sight by any NPC belonging to that faction). Then Unfriendly, Neutral, Friendly, Honored, Revered and finally Exalted. Friendly is normally when the first, lowest level items can be purchased and Exalted will have the best items available. Raising reputations isn’t always easy (although oftentimes it is done without much effort on the part of the player, since most quests in the game provide some sort of reputation gain with someone) but the rewards can be worthwhile.

As with most aspects in the game, there are Alliance and Horde specific factions (only those players belonging to that “side” can raise it), in addition to reputations that either side can raise. What is listed here is by no means the only items that can be purchased from the Quartermasters (other rewards can include plate and cloth items as well as tradeskill specific recipes).

Neutral reputations

Either Horde or Alliance can raise these reputations.

Argent Crusade: Argent Crusade is an organization created from the union of the Argent Dawn and the Knights of the Silver Hand, with outposts scattered around Northrend.

Kirin Tor: Kirin Tor is a sect of wizards, stationed in Dalaran which floats above Crystalsong Forest, that study and record all of humanity’s magic and artifacts.

Knights of the Ebon Blade: An organization of renegade death knights, freed from the grasp of the Lich King, have regrouped against him under command of Highlord Darion Mograine.

The Sons of Hodir: The Sons of Hodir is a faction of war-like frost giants based within The Storm Peaks, at Dun Niffelem.

The Oracles: The Oracles are a race of reptilian creatures often referred to the “next evolution of murlocs”, who find themselves in an escalating territorial war with the wolvar and their faction, the Frenzyheart Tribe in Sholazar Basin.

Ashtongue Deathsworn: The Ashtongue Deathsworn are the elite of the Broken draenei tribe known as the Ashtongue. Previously allied with Illidan in the Black Temple, they are now led by the elder sage Akama.

The Scale of the Sands: The Scale of the Sands is a secretive subgroup of the Bronze Dragonflight, led by Soridormi, prime mate of Nozdormu. Their leader, Nozdormu, sent these guardian factions to Hyjal Summit where they guard the World Tree.

The Violet Eye: The Violet Eye is a secret sect founded by the Kirin Tor of Dalaran to spy on the Guardian of Tirisfal, Medivh, in his tower of Karazhan.

The Aldor: The Aldor are an ancient order of draenei priests who revere the naaru, and to this day they assist the naaru known as the Sha’tar in their battle against Illidan and the Burning Legion. They are found primarily in Shattrath City and Shadowmoon Valley and are at odds with The Scryers.

The Scryers: The Scryers are blood elves who reside in Shattrath City led by Voren’thal the Seer. The group broke away from Prince Kael’thas and are at odds with the Aldor, competing with them for power within Shattrath and the Naaru’s favor.
